It was born as "Emporium Segestanorum", it means dock of the rich Segesta. Due to strategic position it began to be in fight with the near city of Selinunte. In the following period, Castellammare is called, under arabic domination (827 sec. a.d.), Al Madarig (perhaps this name was becouse a starway which from the castle go to the dock). With the conquer of the Sicily by the Normanni, Castellammare become important fortress for the war the war betwne Aragonesi and Angioni, which finished with the victory of Federico II, and due to the alliance with the angioini the imperator forbid the commerce of the wheat in the dock. Only with the domination of the Aragonesi the dock restart to work, and it is in this time that the they make the castle more strong and large. In XVIII century the town continues to grow also becouse grow the commerce in the dock.

 

 

The past left us many monuments and surly the castle is the most important. Interesting are also the church colled "Chiesa Madre" , and the smollest church <'da maronna di l'agnuni> . It's also intersting the Castellammare's summer that finish with the tradictional procession on the sea on 21st of agosto, and before it a nice historical rapresentation. In those years the dock is used to charge wine but more for the tourists ships. In fact the tourism can give to Castellammare new possibilities to grow. The structures are good for the tourist who want enjoy himself in this nice place.

The best resource for Castellammare is the sea. The Zingaro's natural parck permit at the tourist to have a wonderful sea. And just near Castellammare you can find a lot of nice place.
